Helping Individuals Understand and Control anger, anxiety, and stress
Dr. Richard Sohn is a licensed psychologist with more than two decades of experience in psychological services and neuropsychological assessment. His career spans educational systems, community mental health, military operational environments, and private practice settings that demand both clinical rigor and practical effectiveness.
He completed his Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. His early academic and research training established a foundation in neuroscience that continues to inform his clinical work.
Across clinical and operational settings, Dr. Sohn repeatedly observed a consistent problem: individuals often understand their challenges intellectually, yet still lose control under stress. Anxiety, panic, anger, and emotional shutdown emerge not from lack of insight, but from nervous systems that become overwhelmed in real time.
Much of his work focuses on emotional dysregulation driven by heightened physiological arousal-situations where traditional insight-based approaches are insufficient.
Dr. Sohn’s expertise was shaped in environments where emotional regulation directly affects performance, safety, and decision-making. From April 2016 through July 2023, he served as the Command Psychologist for U.S. Special Operations Command–Korea (SOCKOR), providing psychological and neuropsychological services within a military operational context.
In addition to military service, his experience includes private practice in California and Texas, leadership roles in community mental health organizations, and work as a school-based psychologist. These roles reinforced the importance of methods that remain effective under pressure, uncertainty, and sustained stress.
